Warangal: Mulugu district has been placed on high alert as the Godavari River continues to rise above dangerous levels, surpassing the second flood warning mark. At the Ramannagudem Pushkar Ghat in Eturnagaram mandal, the water level reached 15.95 metres, crossing the second warning threshold of 15.82 metres. The first warning was issued on Tuesday night when the river touched 15.36 metres following heavy inflows from upstream. District collector T.S. Divakar confirmed the second warning and stated that all flood-duty officers have been deployed for relief and rescue operations.
Authorities have urged residents in low-lying and flood-prone areas to evacuate to designated rehabilitation centres. People have been advised to avoid staying in houses at risk of collapse, with officials confirming that all necessary arrangements are in place at the evacuation centres.
Amid the massive inflows, irrigation department officials opened 59 gates of the Sammakka Sagar Barrage at Tupakula Gudem. The barrage recorded an inflow of 10,43,280 cusecs, with an equal volume being discharged downstream. Its current water level stands at +84.20 metres. Meanwhile, Laknavaram Lake in Govindaraopet mandal has been overflowing by five feet since Monday, drawing tourists but also raising safety concerns.
The Jampanna Vagu in Medaram is also flowing at dangerous levels, submerging crop fields and areas near the goddess’s platform. Jagga Rao, president of the Medaram Priest’s Association, has appealed to devotees to postpone visits to the Sammakka and Saralamma temple in Medaram.
With heavy rains forecast for the next five days, officials have issued multiple warnings and advised the public to take precautions, avoid travelling through floodwaters, and strictly follow instructions from authorities. The district administration has placed local officials from all concerned departments on high alert to assist in ongoing rescue and relief operations.
