Financial sop to build basement of Indiramma House
DRDA project director Rathod Ravinder said that they are awaiting detailed guidelines from the Society for Elimination of Rural Poverty (SERP) regarding the lending process for the initial loans.

ADILABAD: The state government has introduced a new initiative to support poor beneficiaries of Indiramma Houses in constructing basement levels. Under this programme, eligible recipients can access loans ranging from Rs 20,000 to Rs 30,000 from local Mandal Samakya funds, Self Help Groups (SHGs), Village Organisations, or National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM) funds.
Beneficiaries will receive the first installment from a total of Rs 5 lakh only after completing the basement construction. This measure is designed to overcome financial hurdles that have prevented many from initiating basement construction due to insufficient funds.
Mandal Samakyas, which provide loans to SHGs at minimal interest rates while also accessing NRLM funds, will offer these loans to the needy poor beneficiaries. The programme requires that the beneficiaries, primarily women, be active members of local SHG groups. Once the basement construction is completed, the state government will disburse Rs 1 lakh as part of the first installment.
Adilabad collector Rajarshi Shah confirmed that financial support from Self Help Groups will be available for the construction of basements in Indiramma Houses. He directed officials from the District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) to implement the initiative and ensure that MPDOs facilitate the construction of 20 to 30 basements in selected villages across each mandal in the district by the end of April.
Shah outlined that the total Rs 5 lakh will be disbursed in four installments, with the housing department providing the first installment of Rs 1 lakh upon completion of the basement, which must measure exactly 400 SFT and be built using cement bricks.
DRDA project director Rathod Ravinder said that they are awaiting detailed guidelines from the Society for Elimination of Rural Poverty (SERP) regarding the lending process for the initial loans. He confirmed that a circular on the loan scheme had already been received.
Minister for rural development, Danasari Anasuya Seethakka, is overseeing the activities of self-help groups in the state as the initiative moves forward, ensuring that the programme reaches the intended beneficiaries and accelerates the construction of Indiramma Houses in rural areas.
