Festive Rush Swells Secunderabad Station Crowds

Secunderabad Railway Station’s daily footfall has risen from 1.2 lakh to 1.6 lakh passengers during the Dussehra festive season.

With festival crowds returning to Hyderabad, the South Central Railways (SCR) and the Telangana Road Transport Corporation (TGRTC) are geared up to handle the additional passenger rush during the Dussehra season. Highways leading to the city are swelling with traffic. From Wednesday evening, heavy congestion was reported on the Vijayawada–Hyderabad National Highway (NH‑65), with queues and slow‑moving vehicles at Pantangi Toll Plaza, Choutuppal.

Secunderabad Railway Station, one of the major hubs catering to passengers from Hyderabad, Secunderabad and surrounding areas, has seen a sharp rise in footfall. The station handles about 160 trains daily, including passenger, express and suburban services. Earlier, the average daily footfall was around 1.2 lakh passengers. During the festive season, this has risen to 1.6 lakh passengers per day.

Passengers arriving by private vehicles are being guided to use the parking facility located in the cellar on the Platform No. 10 side of the station. Staff have been deployed to regulate the movement of autos and ensure they do not stop in the throughway, preventing congestion in the circulating area.

Dedicated spaces have also been earmarked for app‑based cab services such as Uber and Rapido. This measure is aimed at streamlining passenger pick‑up and drop‑off operations, regulating vehicle movement and minimising congestion within the station premises.
