Fertiliser Use Drops In State This Kharif
Farmers purchased 9.79 lakh tonnes of urea: Reports

HYDERABAD: Fertiliser use fell by 1.43 lakh tonnes in the kharif season compared to the same period last year, with the single biggest drop of about 35,000 tonnes coming from urea. Agriculture minister Tummala Nageswara Rao, in a statement on Tuesday, said part of the reason for the reduction in use of urea was the targeted sales to farmers through the fertiliser app that the government launched this year.
He said during the 2025-26 kharif season, farmers purchased 9.79 lakh tonnes of urea, which this year fell to 9.44 lakh tonnes. Similarly, sale of complex fertilisers fell from 8.97 lakh tonnes to 7.09 lakh tonnes, but the use of DAP fertiliser rose from 2.38 lakh tonnes last year to 2.98 lakh tonnes this year. Sales of MT of MOP also rose from 0.43 lakh tonnes to 0.49 lakh tonnes as had the sales of MT of SSP which rose from 0.34 lakh tonnes last year to 0.48 lakh tonnes this year.
Fertiliser distribution during kharif was successfully managed with advance stocking, faster movement of shipments and digital monitoring helping prevent shortages for farmers, Nageswara Rao said. He said 33.39 lakh farmers registered for fertilisers through the fertiliser app during Kharif-2026, with 142.08 lakh bags booked and 128.18 lakh bags purchased by farmers.
He said Telangana had 2.33 lakh tonnes of urea in stock, considerably higher than the 0.5 lakh tonnes available at the same time last year.
Nageswara Rao also said that the state's digital crop survey for the 2026-27 kharif had so far covered 1,46,67,370 agricultural fields out of the 1,93,25,309 assigned for the survey. A total of 10,164 volunteers have registered for the survey, of whom 9,820 have installed the app and begun the process. As many as 2,69,597 fields were surveyed on October 5 alone, he said.
