Fencing Of Bullet Train Hub Sparks Violence

The situation turned tense after BRS and BJP leaders reached the spot and expressed support for the protesters.

HYDERABAD: Shamshabad DCP Yogesh Gautam, along with two sub-inspectors and a few constables, was injured when people claiming to be farmers attacked them with chilli powder, chairs and stones while HYDRAA was trying to fence off a 650-acre land parcel in Bahadurguda near Shamshabad on Saturday morning. A large contingent of police has been deployed at the site.

HYDRAA and revenue department personnel arrived in the morning to fence off the land in Survey Nos. 28 and 62, identified for the proposed bullet train hub. They were confronted by locals who claimed they had been cultivating the land for decades and had applied for pattas. The farmers, along with others, refused to vacate the land. Several farmers and others wearing green kanduvas gathered at Bahadurguda, set up a tent, formed a committee named Bhuporata Raithula Samithi, and staged a protest.
The situation turned tense after BRS and BJP leaders reached the spot and expressed support for the protesters. Police tried to pacify the protesters. When the efforts failed, they took several protesters into preventive custody and shifted them to different police stations.
As protesters claimed they had been cultivating the land for decades and had applied for pattas, the revenue department maintained that the entire 650-acre parcel belonged to the government. Tensions escalated after 5 pm when protesters noticed officials fencing the
land. This was followed by stone-pelting, during which police tried to stop the protesters, who turned violent, injuring police personnel. Police and Revenue officials repeatedly told them that only government land was being fenced, but the protesters continued to object.
The incident drew parallels with the Lagacharla episode of 2024. The government had proposed setting up a pharma cluster at Lagacharla in Vikarabad district and initiated land acquisition, sparking protests from farmers and local residents. During a public hearing in November 2024, protesters attacked government officials, including then Vikarabad collector Prateek Jain.
