Faulty Power Lines Are Claiming Lives in Hyderabad

From workers to children, unsafe power lines claim lives across the state in 2025

Hyderabad: The Ramanthapur electrocution incident that claimed five lives is not an isolated tragedy. In recent months, Hyderabad has witnessed several similar incidents where faulty or exposed power lines have turned fatal, affecting men tying temple banners, children playing near poles, vendors, and even passersby. Each case tells the same story of lives lost because of unsafe electrical infrastructure.

These are only some of the cases reported in 2025, but there have been many more across Telangana. Each one is a reminder that the problem is widespread and not limited to Hyderabad alone. These repeated deaths show that electrocution is not a freak accident, but a recurring danger.

The shocking list is as follows

August 6: 25-year-old Guddeti Venu was electrocuted inside a public park at HMT Sathavahananagar around 11 pm. He was rushed to hospital by his friend but could not be saved.

July 8: 32-year-old Gnaneshwar from Bhagyanagar Colony, Kukatpally, lost his life while tying a banner for a temple. He had climbed an arch to fix the banner and unknowingly touched an overhead high-tension wire.

June 15: Two unidentified men and a stray dog electrocuted near LB Nagar’s Sagar crossroads. An 11 kV high-tension line snapped and fell on them while they were sleeping near a temple.

May 7: 12-year-old Mohammad Malik, who was playing at MS Maqta Eidgah Grounds in Khairatabad, died after coming into contact with an electric pole.

April 17: 27-year-old K. Chetan Reddy from East Godavari’s Anaparthy village was electrocuted in Shamshabad’s Peddashpur while trying to pluck mangoes from a tree that had come into contact with a live wire.

January 17: 36-year-old J. Balu and 25-year-old G. Mallesh died in Habsiguda while removing a company signboard. The board slipped on electric wires.

January 7: 40-year-old Anjaneyulu, a pani puri vendor in Malkajgiri, died after touching an exposed wire.
