Hyderabad: A father and a daughter died in a road accident that occurred when he was dropping her at her college, on Shadnagar crossoads at around 7.30 am on Saturday. Shadnagar inspector P. Vijay Kumar identified the deceased as J. Machender, 48, a real estate businessman, and J. Maitri, 20, a final year BTech student.
The incident occurred when Machender was dropping Maitri to her college on a two-wheeler. A diesel tanker, allegedly being driven in a rash and negligent manner, hit the two-wheeler from the rear. The impact of the collision led to them falling on the ground and being run over.
Maitri died on the spot, Machender died an hour after being shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment, the Inspector said.
IO Susheela said that the Shadnagar patrol vehicle spotted them and took the tanker driver, Sreenu, into police custody. He tested negative in an alcohol test.
“The causes of the accident are yet to be ascertained. The driver says he could not spot the deceased. There are CCTV cameras in the area but do not cover the range within which the incident occurred. We are investigating,” the IO said.
Their bodies were shifted to the Shadnagar government hospital for postmortem examination. A case was registered under Section 106(1) of the BNS and further investigation into the incident is underway.
