Farmers Stage Road Blockade Seeking Kadam Project Water For Paddy

Farmers demand irrigation water until November-end, warning that stopping supply could damage paddy crops in the booting stage.

Farmers staged a road blockade at Chinthaguda village in Jannaram mandal of Mancherial district on Wednesday, opposing the irrigation department’s decision to stop releasing water from the Kadam irrigation project from November 7.

The farmers demanded that water be supplied for irrigation until the end of November to protect standing crops, particularly paddy in the booting stage, which requires adequate water for growth. They warned that the crop could dry up if the supply was stopped.

They also sought water supply up to the tail-end areas and appealed to officials to balance irrigation requirements with drinking water needs.

The farmers alleged that water had already been released 20 days late for the Kharif season.
