Farmers Ask Govt to Buy Their Rain-Hit Produce

Similar damage to paddy and jowar was reported from parts of Mancherial district.

ADILABAD: Unseasonal rains damaged paddy and jowar stocks at market yards and ‘kallalu’ across the erstwhile Adilabad district on Thursday, prompting farmers to urge the state government to procure the affected produce.

At the Adilabad market yard, farmers who brought jowar for sale were forced to keep stocks in the open due to lack of covered storage space. Stocks of maize were also exposed and damaged. Farmers said they were unable to cover the produce in time as heavy rain began suddenly, while some tarpaulin sheets were blown away.

In several instances, rainwater entered the covered stocks, washing away paddy and jowar. Farmers were seen collecting the scattered produce from nearby areas.

Jowar stocks were affected in Dilawarpur, Narsapur (G), Thanur, Bhainsa, Lokeshwaram and Mudhole following the unseasonal rains in Nirmal district. Paddy was also damaged on the outskirts of Bhainsa.
