Fake HC Lawyer Held In ₹20 Cr Land Fraud

In the same land deal, two High Court lawyers were allegedly defrauded of ₹25 lakh by Karim and his associates: Chevella station house officer Bhupal Sridhar

HYDERABAD: Chevella police arrested a man impersonating a High Court lawyer and attempting to dupe influential persons of several crores of rupees by promising them land — most of it disputed property — using fake documents. Acting on a complaint, police arrested Abdul Karim from his hideout in Mehdipatnam, Chevella station house officer Bhupal Sridhar said.

Karim, a native of Guntur in Andhra Pradesh, targeted disputed land, created forged documents and struck deals worth crores by claiming to be the owner or agreement holder, Sridhar said.

In January, Karim allegedly conspired to sell 9.36 acres belonging to Amudal Samelu in Chevella mandal, with a market value of over ₹20 crore, using fabricated documents. Karim lured a local real estate businessman from Chevella and took an advance of ₹10 lakh, promising to settle all court cases.

After receiving the money, he switched off his phone, changed residence and went underground. When Samelu found Karim missing, he filed a complaint. Special teams coordinated with AP police and, after thorough investigation, uncovered several irregularities in the fraud.

In the same land deal, two High Court lawyers were allegedly defrauded of ₹25 lakh by Karim and his associates, Sridhar said.

During interrogation, Karim revealed that he and his associates had collected ₹2 crore from a prominent city jeweller by promising to settle another land dispute in Hyderabad. The accused has been remanded in judicial custody. Police are likely to seek custody for further investigation, sources said.
