Factories Officials Told to Intensify Checks for Safety

Hyderabad: The factories department conducted a sensitisation meeting on Thursday at the Medchal Malkajgiri district collectorate. The session focused on self-certification by high-risk factories, particularly chemical and pharmaceutical units, and inspections by district-level committees.

The meeting was chaired by Radhika Gupta, additional district collector (local bodies), who stressed the need to improve safety in chemical and pharmaceutical industries. Citing the Sigachi Industries explosion, she instructed departments of factories, boilers, industries, labour, fire services, and the Pollution Control Board (PCB) to carry out phased inspections.

She urged managements to upgrade safety systems and directed the district committee to hold awareness programmes in local industrial clusters. She also asked for the creation of safety modules tailored to various industrial categories.

TG IPS Body Gets New Team

Hyderabad: The Telangana IPS Officers Association elected new office-bearers on Thursday. G. Sudheer Babu, commissioner of police, Rachakonda, was elected vice-president; Vikram Singh Mann, additional commissioner of police, Hyderabad, secretary. Tafseer Iqbal, DIG MZ-2, was made joint secretary, and Joel Davis, joint commissioner of police, Hyderabad, will serve as the treasurer.

The elected executive committee members are S. Chandra Shekar Reddy, IGP MZ-1; Bhaskaran, SP (Intelligence); Janaki Dharavath, SP Mahbubnagar; Janaki Sharmila, SP Nirmal; and Sneha Mehra, DCP Hyderabad.

TG Eases Rules for Disabled Staff

Hyderabad: Government employees in Telangana with 70 per cent or more disability will now be exempted from routine and rotational transfers, as per a new order issued on August 7. The exemption also applies to employees who are caregivers of dependents with certified disabilities exceeding 70 per cent, including children, spouses, parents, and siblings—except in cases of intellectual disability. Caregivers of children with intellectual disabilities will be exempted.

The order, issued under Section 20(5) of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016, followed a proposal by the department for empowerment of persons with disabilities, senior citizens, and transgender persons. The exemption is subject to staffing needs and administrative feasibility. Continuation in the same post is not automatic and will depend on service utilisation.

GHMC to Tap IIT-Trained Talent

Hyderabad: To fast-track the Hyderabad City Innovative and Transformative Infrastructure (H-CITI) projects and Strategic Nala Development Programme (SNDP) Phase-II, GHMC will identify engineers trained at premier institutions like IIT and NIT for involvement in project design.

The decision was taken during a review meeting at the GHMC Head Office on Thursday, where engineering teams presented project-wise PowerPoint updates. GHMC also resolved to provide necessary facilities to strengthen its design team and build in-house expertise.

MANUU ITI Admissions on Aug. 20

Hyderabad: The Industrial Training Institute (ITI) of Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU), Hyderabad, will hold its second phase of counselling on August 20 to fill remaining trade vacancies.

Candidates must report in person at 9.30 am at the MANUU campus in Gachibowli. Completed application forms must be submitted by August 18. Forms are available at the ITI office and can also be downloaded from the university website.
