Facial Attendance Glitch Puts Retired Teacher On Absent List

District educational officer M. Rajender reportedly issued directions to mandal education officers, headmasters and other officials, enclosing a list of 238 employees shown absent on Friday and asking them to initiate action.

BHOOPALPALLY: An administrative lapse in the district education department in Bhupalpally came to light on Saturday after a retired teacher was included in a list of employees marked absent through the facial recognition attendance system.

District educational officer M. Rajender reportedly issued directions to mandal education officers, headmasters and other officials, enclosing a list of 238 employees shown absent on Friday and asking them to initiate action.

The list included G. Srinivasulu, a school assistant (English) at Mylaram High School in Ganapuram mandal, who had retired in December 2025. A show-cause notice was reportedly issued to him for absence from duty.

Teachers said several employees who had attended work were also marked absent.

They attributed the discrepancies to malfunctioning facial recognition system (FRS) devices used for attendance. According to them, delays in repair and maintenance have led to repeated technical issues.

Employees said poor network connectivity in parts of the district, along with software and device-related problems, often prevents attendance from being recorded accurately. In some cases, attendance is registered but does not reflect correctly in the system.

Teachers expressed concern that show-cause notices were being issued without addressing these technical issues, leading to inconvenience among staff.

They urged authorities to resolve the issues with FRS devices and improve monitoring mechanisms to avoid such errors.
