Expired food items, cockroach infestation found in Hotel Ashoka in Hyderabad

Telangana food safety officials raid Hotel Ashoka

Hyderabad: Officials of Telangana Food Safety raided Hotel Ashoka in Lakdi-ka-Pul and found foul smell with untidy kitchen walls and floor apart from cockroach infestation.

During the raids, officials found rusty vessels in the kitchen and refrigerator while synthetic food colours were being used in preparing food items. After finding rotten brinjal and cauliflower, officials discarded them. There were no Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) logo and Food Safety Training and Certification (FoSTaC) trained supervisor despite more than 140 people working on the premises.

Expired food items including rosemary dry herbs with an expiry date in September 2023 and curry cut packaged chicken, four and two kg each dated January 2 and 14, respectively and 4 kg packet dated January 28 were discarded.

Water analysis reports were also not available, officials said, adding that food samples were collected from the hotel for analysis.
