Expedite Identification and Welfare Measures for Telangana Activists: Revanth to Officials
Revanth Reddy reiterated that it was the responsibility of the government to honour the contribution of those who had sacrificed their lives, careers and future for achieving statehood for Telangana and to extend support to their families.
Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Saturday directed officials to expedite the process of identifying Telangana statehood activists and implementing welfare measures for them and their families. He was speaking during a meeting during with a committee constituted by the government to identify the activists submitted a report on its consultations and recommendations.
The committee, headed by Dr K. Keshava Rao, briefed Revanth Reddy on the classification of Telangana movement activists and their major demands. The Chief Minister examined the report and responded positively to the requests made by the activists.
Among the demands placed before the government were allotment of 250-square-yard residential plots, Cheyutha pensions, health cards, free travel in TGSRTC buses and formal recognition for government employees who participated in the Telangana movement.
Revanth Reddy reiterated that it was the responsibility of the government to honour the contribution of those who had sacrificed their lives, careers and future for achieving statehood for Telangana and to extend support to their families. He directed the committee to complete the identification and welfare exercise without any delay and at the earliest.
The Chief Minister also instructed senior officials to extend administrative support to the committee in carrying out the identification process. This includes developing an official web portal, receiving applications digitally, coordinating the exercise at the district level and providing the necessary administrative and technical resources.
The committee said it had recently conducted extensive consultations at the Amaraveerula Smarak (Amaradeepam) with more than 13,000 Telangana movement activists, besides representatives of various joint action committees, people's organisations, poets, artists and women activists. Details of the consultations, a draft classification of activists and their key demands were presented to the Chief Minister.
The meeting was attended by committee members, who included MLC Prof. M. Kodandaram, committee executive member Mothe Shobhan Reddy and former MLC S. Ramulu Naik. Rajya Sabha member Vem Narender Reddy, Chief Secretary Sanjay Jaju, CMO principal secretary V. Seshadri and senior officials were present.
