Excise Minister Jupally Krishna Rao expressed grief over Soumya’s death and said the government would extend all possible support to her family. He also assured that weapons would be provided to excise personnel engaged in field duties to ensure their safety.
Soumya sustained critical injuries on January 23 while attempting to intercept a gang illegally transporting ganja in Nizamabad. The smugglers deliberately rammed their vehicle into her while trying to flee.
Hyderabad: The Telangana government on Sunday announced financial assistance of ₹1 crore and a government job to a family member of excise constable Gajula Soumya (25), who succumbed to injuries after being run over by ganja smugglers while on duty in Nizamabad district.

She was shifted to NIMS, Hyderabad, where she was undergoing treatment, but succumbed to her injuries on Saturday night.
