EVs Key to Energy Security, Import Cut and Tech Self-Reliance, Says Kishan Reddy
Reddy stressed that public sector units such as Coal India and NLC are expanding into solar, floating solar and pumped storage to ensure that the electricity powering EVs is green.
Hyderabad:Union minister G. Kishan Reddy on Sunday said electric mobility is not just an alternative to petrol and diesel vehicles but a strategic pathway to energy security, pollution control, import reduction and technological self‑reliance. He said the Centre was extending support across the EV ecosystem, covering manufacturing, batteries, charging infrastructure, research and skill development.
Flagging off the first commercial electric bus of a domestic manufacturer, Reddy stressed that public sector units such as Coal India and NLC are expanding into solar, floating solar and pumped storage to ensure that the electricity powering EVs is green.
He pointed to the National Critical Mineral Mission, approved with an outlay of Rs34,300 crore, as vital for securing lithium, cobalt, nickel and copper needed for EVs, solar panels, semiconductors and defence technologies.
The bus was handed over to an operating partner in the presence of the manufacturer’s director Venkatesh Challa. Kishan Reddy said the launch marked another step forward in clean transport, indigenous technology and green energy.
He noted that Telangana is emerging as a hub for electric mobility, electronics and semiconductor design, with Hyderabad attracting international chip design centres and nurturing homegrown engineering talent under the Semicon India Programme.
India now manufactures 99.2 per cent of its smartphones domestically and ranks second globally in mobile phone production. Electronics manufacturing has grown sevenfold and exports eleven‑fold, generating around 25 lakh jobs.
