EU-Led Alliance Wins TGSRTC Union Polls By 4,500 Votes

The Employees’ Union-led alliance defeated the TWU alliance by around 4,500 votes to win state-level recognition in TGSRTC union elections.

The Employees' Union (EU)-led United Alliance has secured a major victory in the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) trade union elections, defeating the Telangana Workers Union (TWU) alliance by an estimated margin of 4,500 votes to emerge as the state-level recognised union.

The Telangana Mazdoor Union (TMU), meanwhile, maintained its dominance in the Greater Hyderabad Zone. The labour commissioner is expected to officially announce the vote shares secured by the unions next Saturday.

Despite reportedly enjoying the support of the ruling Congress, the TWU alliance failed to secure state-level recognition. The EU-led alliance, backed by Left parties, emerged victorious. Employees attributed the TWU alliance's defeat partly to the state government's delay in implementing its decision to absorb TGSRTC employees into government service.

Around 36,000 TGSRTC employees cast their votes on Friday in the trade union elections, held after a gap of nearly a decade. The labour department conducted polling at 115 stations across the state.
