Adilabad:In a rare gesture of compassion, Telangana State Women’s Commission member Kumra Eshwari Bai donated a cow along with a calf to the family of a one-month-old baby whose mother died soon after childbirth. The donation was made using her personal funds during a visit to Thippa (K), a remote tribal village in Adilabad Rural mandal on Tuesday.
The child’s mother, Atram Ranibai, passed away on May 15 due to ill health after delivering a baby girl on April 18. The family belongs to the Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group (PVTG) Kolam community, with around 30 such families residing in the remote village.
Eshwari Bai visited the village to console the grieving family. Villagers informed her that they were unable to procure milk in the interior area and requested help to feed the infant, who had been left without her mother’s nourishment. Moved by the family’s plight, Eshwari Bai personally purchased a cow with a calf for `20,000 and handed it over to the child’s relatives. The baby’s father, Krishna, along with her grandmother and grandfather, are now caring for her at home.
Earlier, officials from the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) had visited the village and offered to take the baby to the Shishugruha in Adilabad for better care, but the family declined. Eshwari Bai said the donation was made in response to the family's heartfelt appeal and underscored the need for timely support for tribal families living in isolated areas.
