Hyderabad: Without aligning with ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) standards, Indian companies cannot sustain themselves in global competition, and hence every leadership professional must understand ESG and ensure their products and systems comply with these norms, said Telangana Special Chief Secretary Jayesh Ranjan.
He was speaking as the Chief Guest at the ESG Leadership Conference organised by the Hyderabad Management Association (HMA) at Hotel Plaza, Begumpet.
Jayesh Ranjan said, “Recently, we organised the Rising Telangana Global Summit and released a Vision Document. To contribute meaningfully towards India becoming a USD 30 trillion economy by 2047, Telangana has set clear targets. I encourage you to also prepare a strong document highlighting what our startups are doing and achieving. The government will support wherever possible."
Different countries have different ESG reporting needs, and compliance documents must be audit-ready. The certification course being launched by HMA is extremely timely and valuable. Telangana is globally known for pharma, life sciences and biotechnology industries, exporting to 93 countries.
But Europe has issued a strong warning stating that non-ESG compliant products will be banned. This is a serious threat. The US is a big market but due to tariff barriers, Europe becomes extremely important, and ESG compliance is mandatory to retain that market.
Exports alone can help Telangana become a USD 3 trillion economy. In the next 22 years, our exports will grow tenfold. ESG ensures our products don't harm the environment, contribute positively to society, and adhere to strong governance norms. Women leaders heading many organisations today should also understand ESG deeply and align their systems accordingly. If HMA members utilise programs like these, they can transform and lead in the evolving global ecosystem.”
