Enumeration Phase Ends, 73 Lakh Votes at Risk

Hyderabad:The last day for submitting voter enumeration forms for the special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral roll ended at 6 pm on Monday, even as around 73 lakh voters failed to get their names enrolled for the voter list, which will be published on August 17. A large majority of these voters comes from Hyderabad, Rangareddy and Medchal-Malkajgiri districts.
According to data released by the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), 78.26 per cent of the 3.38 crore enumeration forms were digitised so far, with Hyderabad district standing last at 58.89 per cent.
Voters can file claims and objections between August 17 and October 15. The final electoral roll will be published on October 19.
In a statement, the CEO said, “3,38,26,448 enumeration forms were distributed in all 33 districts. Of these, 2,64,73,616 enumeration forms were submitted by electors and digitised.”

Even on the last day of the enumeration phase, community halls and other enumeration centres remained deserted as people left off the electoral roll showed no interest in the voter clean-up process.
According to officials, the migrant population's preference to enrol as voters in their native areas was a primary reason for the low turnout in Hyderabad. “People who come from Andhra Pradesh and other states enrolled themselves in their native states. This will result in them being listed as absent.”
The natives of Telangana, who come from areas outside Hyderabad metropolis, also chose to get themselves registered in their home districts rather than the state capital. People from affluent sections of society paid no heed to protect their vote.
“Enthusiasm shown for festivals like Ganesh Chaturthi, Navratri and others was missing for the SIR 2026. The irony is even people are not interested,” said a resident from a gated community in Nallagandla.
