Hyderabad:At least 11 people, including 10 US‑based citizens of Indian origin and a Hyderabad resident, are missing in Nepal after travelling for the Manasa Sarovar Yatra, as rescue teams continue efforts to locate those caught in the floods.
The missing group of 10 includes nine US citizens and one Canadian citizen. They were travelling together on a pilgrimage to Mount Kailash and Manasa Sarovar facilitated by Classic Vacations, a Nepal‑based travel agency. Communication was lost after severe flooding hit Nepal’s Rasuwa district on Wednesday. The group was last known to be at the Rasuwagadhi Immigration Office near the Nepal‑China border at around 8.30 am local time on Wednesday.
The missing US citizens are Anil Goel, Srinivas Sudhir Rangu, Laxminath Gopishetty, Kesava Rao Tadipatri, Kirti Acharya, Sudhindhra Yapalparvi, Vivek Srivastav, Venkat Balasubramanyam and Venkat Bangalore. Mahendra Gupta, part of the same group, is a Canadian citizen.
Laxminath Gopishetty is CEO of Infosys Public Services, which provides technology solutions to government and public‑sector organisations in the US and Canada. Infosys said in a statement: “Our immediate concern is for his safety and wellbeing, and we are working with relevant agencies to gather information and establish contact. We remain in close communication with the family and are providing all necessary support during this difficult time.”
Another person reported missing is 38‑year‑old Rallagudam Dhanpal Reddy from Manikonda, who also went on the yatra. On the day of the flooding, he posted on Instagram at 8.04 am from the Rasuwagadhi border, sharing local scenery. His family has requested authorities to establish contact and provide support.
Meanwhile, Nepal Police’s Crime Investigation Department launched a website — https://udb.nepalpolice.gov.np — to allow citizens and family members to check details of unidentified bodies.
