Family blames hotel for ignoring safety; police file negligence case

Hyderabad: A 23-year-old electrician died of electrocution while decorating a hotel for Independence Day celebrations in Jeedimetla in the early hours of Friday. According to investigating officer R. Prem Sagar, the deceased, Prakash Lenka, worked as an electrician at Lemon Ridge Hotel.
His cousin, Prakash Swain, who travelled from his native village after being informed, alleged that Lenka had been instructed by the hotel management to fix floral decorations on an iron rod around 12.30 midnight.
Despite warning the management about the risk of electrocution, his concerns were allegedly ignored. While carrying out the work, Lenka came into contact with an 11KV live power line and suffered a fatal shock. He was rushed to a private hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.
Following the incident, Swain lodged a complaint against the hotel management. A case has been registered for alleged negligence of the management under relevant sections of the BNS at the Jeedimetla police station. Further investigation into the incident is underway.
