Hyderabad: The Hyderabad police arrested a 68-year-old person on charges of selling adulterated ghee to customers.
The accused Annamali Sainathan was resident of Second Bazar in Secunderabad. He was previously running a tiffin center near Monda Market. After discontinuing his business and facing financial difficulties due to lack of income, he resorted to illegal activities for earning money.
Taking advantage of the public demand for cow ghee, the accused started preparing adulterated ghee at his residence in Secunderabad. He was found to be using plant-based oils such as coconut oil, palm oil, dalda, and food colouring to manufacture the spurious product.
The adulterated ghee was packed in one-liter poly packs and sold in the local market to the general public and pooja stores, falsely claiming it to be cow ghee at the rate of Rs.600 per kilogram. By indulging in the illegal practice, the accused cheated consumers, endangered public health, and gained unlawful financial benefits. Necessary legal action is being initiated against the accused as per law, said Task Force Deputy Commissioner of Police Gaikwad Vaibhav Raghunath.( Source : Deccan Chronicle )
