Eight Missing Persons Feared Charred To Death In Sigachi Blast

Officials urge families to perform last rites while DNA tests and debris searches continue; ₹15 lakh assistance provided to each family.

Hyderabad: Eight workers, who were on the floor of the Sigachi factory during the massive blast on June 30 but remain untraceable, are feared charred to death and officials are still unable to trace their remains.

The missing persons are identified as Rahul, Sivaji, Venkatesh, Vijay Kumar, Akhilesh Kumar, Justine, Irfan and Ravi. Out of 143 people, who were at the blast site, 44 people have died and eight are missing, while others are either recovered or being treated at hospital for injuries.

District collector P. Pravinya and superintendent of police Paritosh Pankaj have convened a meeting with the family members of missing persons and informed them that they will communicate to them if any development takes place in connection with the missing persons.

The district administration has requested the family members of eight missing persons to go to native places and perform death ceremonies of the missing persons declaring them to be dead. The missing persons were from different places such as Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh among other states.

The management of Sigachi Industries through the district authorities has extended financial assistance of Rs 15 lakh to each family member as initial aid to the family members of the missing persons.

Sangareddy additional collector Badugu Chandrasekhar said eight persons are still missing and officials are unable to trace their ashes including samples. “The officials are still continuing the search operation while shifting debris. If any samples are collected, they would conduct DNA in confirming the death of missing persons,” he said.

"Sigachi Industries provided Rs 15 lakh financial assistance through the district administration to the family members of the missing persons. We also asked the family members to leave for their native places. If anyone is willing to stay, they can be accommodated at a rehabilitation centre set up at Sigachi Industries Limited," the additional collector said.
