Education Reforms Need Parents' Support to Succeed, Says Govt Adviser at Vidya Varotsavalu Finale

Students from government schools across the state and Jawahar Balbhavan showcased paintings, handicrafts, creative models, sketches and poetry collections, while cultural performances added colour to the programme

HYDERABAD: The school education department concluded the week-long Vidya Varotsavalu on Saturday with a state-level art and craft day programme, where government adviser K. Keshava Rao, education secretary Dr Yogita Rana, commissioner of collegiate and technical education A. Sridevasena and director of school education Dr E. Naveen Nicolas interacted with students, viewed exhibits and spoke about changes planned in the education sector, including the large-scale introduction of pre-primary sections in government schools and foreign exposure visits for 500 teachers.

Students from government schools across the state and Jawahar Balbhavan showcased paintings, handicrafts, creative models, sketches and poetry collections, while cultural performances added colour to the programme. Cash prizes were presented to selected students and certificates were distributed to students and teachers who recorded 100 per cent attendance under the facial recognition system initiative.

“Educational reforms introduced by the Government will yield results only with the cooperation of parents. Unless parents support these changes and encourage children accordingly, reforms will remain only on paper,” Keshava Rao said after inaugurating the exhibition.

He said classrooms should move beyond rote learning and textbook-centred teaching. “Teaching is not just completing a subject in 40 minutes. Real education is understanding how much the child has understood,” he said.

Referring to art, dance, literature and painting, he said these should be treated as part of education itself and Sridevasena and Naveen Nicolas spoke about the upcoming summer camps, Badi Bata activities, and earlier Library Day celebrations and special coaching camps organised for students who did not clear SSC and Intermediate examinations.
