Hyderabad: A day after its raids on people linked to the Bhoodan land scam, the Enforcement Directorate revealed that it recovered incriminating documents related to fraudulent sale and purchase of government land, Indian currency of Rs 23 lakh, foreign currency of 12,000 UAE Dirham and 45 old and used cars, all worth over Rs 1 crore.
According to sources, the searches started at 3 am on Monday and would reportedly continue till this weekend. The market value of the seized vintage cars was very high and the ED would officially disclose the value shortly.
The searches were conducted at the residences and farmhouses of Khaderunissa, Mohd. Munawar Khan, Mohd Lateef Sharfan, Mohd. Akhtar Sharfan, Mohd. Sukoor and others under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002.
The ED initiated an investigation based on an FIR registered by the police against private persons and government officials regarding illegal sale of government land involving forgery of documents and manipulation of government revenue records.
The investigation revealed that Bhoodan land situated in Nagaram village, Maheshwaram mandal was falsely claimed by Khaderunissa as her ancestral property, revenue records were fraudulently mutated and the land was sold to various entities in association with several middlemen.
These middlemen, in connivance with government officials, forged the documents and changed the land revenue records resulting in de-notifying the land from the prohibited list and its subsequent sale to some private parties.
About 45 old and used cars, including several vintage cars, were seized from the farmhouse premises of Mohd. Munawar Khan. Further investigation is under progress, the ED said.
