Hyderabad: In a special drive against Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS), the Telangana EAGLE force has apprehended 27 drug peddlers, 18 consumers, and five women foreign nationals in 17 cases and seized 68 grams of cocaine, 50.5 grams of MDMA, two grams of LSD blots, and 381.93 kg of ganja in the past 10 days, indicating heightened drug activity ahead of the New Year celebrations.
In view of the ensuing New Year celebrations, youth are strongly advised not to fall prey to drugs in the name of party culture, music events, or momentary craze, Sandeep Shandilya, TG-EAGLE team Director, told Deccan Chronicle on Tuesday.
Sandeep said, “Our EAGLE force, along with Banjara Hills police, on Tuesday arrested a woman near a mobile shop in Banjara Hills and seized MDMA and LSD blot from her possession.”
The accused woman, Hassa, 47, a resident of Banjara Hills, when subjected to narco analyser, tested positive for meth and amphetamine, Sandeep Shandilya, said.
During questioning, Hassa confessed that in December 2024, she travelled to Goa by bus, where she met Meena of Bowenpally, Hyderabad, and her friend Kiran. They stayed together at a hotel and explored Goa.
One day, they visited Vagator Beach and later a club, where Meena introduced her to her friend Romy Bharat Kalyani from Siolim, Goa, Sandeep said.
During the meeting, Romy handed Meena a packet containing a yellow powder, and she immediately prepared the stuff on a glass table and consumed it, the director said.
After returning to Hyderabad, she contacted Meena to obtain Romy’s phone number. In March 2025, Hassa further revealed that she revisited Goa and stayed at the hotel and met Romy again, who provided her with one gram of MDMA.
Similar transactions occurred during subsequent visits in July, October, and December 2025, sometimes involving intermediaries when Romy was unavailable.
On December 26, 2025, Romy personally met her in Siolim and later Mapusa, where he provided MDMA and LSD blots. On some occasions, acquaintances such as Sumiha Khan and Wazir Boxer from Hyderabad also consumed MDMA with her.
Hassa revealed her connections with Romi Bharath Kalyani, previously arrested by Golconda police and released on bail in November 2025.
Romi Bharath Kalyani, 40, NDPS drug repeated offender, native of West Mumbai is a known supplier of narcotics to consumers and has a long history of offences under the NDPS Act and was arrested by Golconda, Panjagutta, Adilabad district police in 2024, and on November 19 this year, and since then he is absconding, a police officer said.
Efforts are underway to apprehend the drug peddler Romi Bharath Kalyani, a press release issued by EAGLE director stated.
