Drunk Driver Attacks Cops With Sickle

Police recorded Rao’s details to register a drunken driving case and allowed him to leave: Reports

NALGONDA: A man allegedly tried to attack police personnel with a hunting sickle at in Manuguru mandal after he was booked in a drunken driving case, police said on Friday.

Solam Nageshwara Rao, a native of Toggigudem in Bhadradri Kothagudem district, was stopped by police during a drunken driving check near the Sammakka-Sarakka temple in the village. Police said his breath analyser test showed a BAC reading of 80 mg/100 ml, above the permitted limit.

According to Manuguru circle inspector Paati Naga Babu, police recorded Rao’s details to register a drunken driving case and allowed him to leave. He later returned from his house carrying a hunting sickle and allegedly attempted to attack police personnel, angry over the breath analyser test.

Police overpowered and arrested him after about 10 minutes. A case was registered against Rao for obstructing police from discharging their duties and attempting to attack police personnel.

He was produced before the First-Class Judicial Magistrate Court, which remanded him to judicial custody.
