Driving with Headphones Poses Serious Risk to Road Safety: Sajjanar

Sajjanar instructed the traffic police to trace the auto driver and take stringent legal action as per the law

Hyderabad: Hyderabad Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar on Wednesday asked the traffic police to initiate legal action against an auto rickshaw driver for driving using headphones.

Responding to a video sent by a netizen in which an auto driver was seen driving a vehicle with headphones, Sajjanar said that even if the attention is diverted from the road for a moment while driving , serious accidents might occur.

“Watching a movie directly and driving with headphones in your ears is not just negligence but it is an unforgivable crime,” he said.

According to the Motor Vehicle (MC) Act, this comes under dangerous driving. It is punishable by a heavy fine and the possibility of cancellation of the driving license. It is important to remember that the auto should not be turned into a theater and put the end card on lives.

Any vehicle whether it is a two-wheeler, car, auto, bus or lorry, using mobile phones, headphones and earbuds while driving is dangerous.

“Do not remain silent while looking at the driver's phone or putting headphones or earbuds in their ears. Immediately question and stop them as it is a danger to life. If they do not listen, do not neglect to dial 112 immediately and inform the police. Your negligence while traveling will endanger your life,” Sajjanar cautioned.

“At the same time, you should realize that your alertness will save the lives of many innocent people along with you,” he said. He instructed the traffic police to trace the auto driver and take stringent legal action as per the law.
