Driver Held for Smuggling PDS Rice to Maharashtra

Hyderabad: In a combined operation, the south zone task force, Chandrayangutta police and civil supplies officials intercepted a mini-lorry and seized 103 quintals of PDS rice worth `4 lakh that it was carrying, task force additional DCP Ande Srinivasa Rao said.

Police also arrested driver Mohd Yousuf, resident of Indiranagar in Borabanda. The other accused, Viquar and Aleem, are at large. According to Rao, Yousuf told the police that had collected the PDS rice from Viquar and Aleem to transport to Maharashtra.

The duo collected the rice from ration card holders at low rates, he said. The arrests were made by a team headed by south zone task force inspector S. Raghavendra.

Chandrayangutta ACP Manoj Kumar clarified that it was coarse rice, and not the fine rice that the government had

begun distributing from Ugadi.
