Hyderabad:In a special drive against illegal sand mining and transportation, Rachakonda police registered 71 cases in a span of two days. The crackdown across Rachakonda commissionerate jurisdiction is part of the ongoing efforts to curb illegal sand extraction and transportation, stated Rachakonda CP G Sudheer Babu.

The CP said, “The commitment of the police force to fight the sand mafia will continue. The department would continue to take strict action against illegal sand transportation and mining activities. Such operations would persist without leniency and those involved in these illegal activities would face severe legal consequences.”

The operation was conducted across the commissionerate limits including the LB Nagar zone where 26 cases were filed, followed by 23 cases in Malkajgiri zone, 12 in Maheshwaram, and 10 in Yadadri-Bhuvanagiri zone. A total of 107 individuals were arrested during this drive, Sudheer Babu said.

In addition to the cases filed with respective police stations, the teams seized 3,762 tonnes of illegally mined sand, valued at Rs 58.72 lakh, from 44 sand dumps across the commissionerate. Police also seized several vehicles involved in the illegal transport, including nine lorries, five tipper trucks, eight tractors, and one mini-van.
