DRF Chief For More Defence Drills

Telangana State Disaster Response and Fire Services director-general Y. Nagi Reddy on Thursday hinted at more civil defence exercises based on the instructions of the government and equipment available during the real-time incidents.

Hyderabad:Telangana State Disaster Response and Fire Services director-general Y. Nagi Reddy on Thursday hinted at more civil defence exercises based on the instructions of the government and equipment available during the real-time incidents. The only shortcoming in the civil defence exercise of Wednesday was found the blocking of vehicles by the public unknowingly.

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Nagi Reddy said, “This is the first time any of the officers experienced it and we all pulled it together. We are now ready to face any such incident. If there are any instructions to us, we will organise more drills to prepare ourselves and the public. There was all the cooperation from the gathered crowd and all the wings, the only lapse I felt was the blockade of vehicles.”

Out of four places selected for the mock drill, the departments took permission from the apartment management and alerted the residents. The premises were filled with ambulances and fire engines to use for the demo. Commuters and outsiders who wanted to participate parked their bikes randomly.

He said that in real time it would be difficult during the emergency movements. However, all the wings coordinated from their end and played their part.

The crowd were seen laying down on the floor as instructed by the police and fire personnel. While a few minded hygiene issues, others showed their true sense of purpose and lay flat on the roads and railway platforms. Rescuing pets too was shown as a concern by the crowd.

Hyderabad traffic joint commissioner Joel Davis said that the officers were instructed to inform the crowd about the nearest shelter house and they were moved to safer places. They were also instructed how to reach the nearest hospital and at the signals and junctions, they were provided with a green channel. This would help in making quick decisions at the point of the time when needed.
