Don’t Harass Farmers, Ponguleti Tells Officials

Revenue Minister warns of suspensions for harassment of farmers during grievance resolution under ‘Revenue Sadassulu’

Hyderabad: Revenue minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy on Tuesday issued a stern warning to revenue officials, stating that severe action, including suspensions, would be taken if farmers are harassed while resolving grievances, which they submitted to the officials at the ‘Revenue Sadassulu’ in June.

In a video conference with district collectors in the Secretariat along with ministers Ponnam Prabhakar, Adluri Laxman Kumar and Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao, the minister reviewed the implementation of Bhu Bharati Act and Indiramma Housing scheme.

He stressed the importance of effective implementation of the Bhu Bharati Act, saying that only then would its benefits reach the common people. He warned that any complaints of harassment by field-level staff during the resolution of grievances, particularly from farmers, would be dealt with harshly.

Out of 8.65 lakh applications received during the Revenue Sadassulu, nearly six lakh pertained to issues like Sadabainama, missing survey numbers, assigned land, its regularisation and succession.

The minister directed officials to categorise these into five groups and resolve as many as possible by August 15. He asked officials not to reject applications arbitrarily, and to provide written reasons in cases of rejection.

He also instructed collectors to send assigned land beneficiary data to the government by July 30, and to resolve Sadabainama issues without waiting for court verdicts.

On the Indiramma housing scheme, he instructed collectors to ensure there are no issues with cement, steel or sand supply, which will be provided free by the government. Transport costs should be minimised for beneficiaries.

The minister said eligible poor families should be given houses regardless of whether their names appear in L1, L2 or L3 lists and special drives would be held for 2BHK allocation. He also asked officials to fix payment issues arising from technical glitches.
