Doctors Flag Bid To Dilute Local PG Quota
HRDA stressed that Telangana’s healthcare delivery system depends heavily on specialists trained within the state.

Hyderabad:The Healthcare Reforms Doctors Association (HRDA) has expressed deep concern over indications that certain private medical college groups may be influencing the legal challenge currently underway against the 85 per cent local quota, which the Telangana High Court has asked to keep on hold for this year. The association alleged that private institutions, which have historically benefited from non-local admissions through higher fee structures, NRI quota conversions and other commercial advantages, may be trying to weaken a policy framed in the public interest.
Senior HRDA representative Dr Bandari Rajkumar said postgraduate seats must be treated as public health assets, not commercial commodities. HRDA stressed that Telangana’s healthcare delivery system depends heavily on specialists trained within the state.
Local PG graduates, it noted, are far more likely to continue serving in Telangana’s government hospitals, district facilities and semi-urban areas, ensuring continuity in key specialties such as anaesthesia, general medicine, paediatrics, surgery, obstetrics, emergency medicine and critical care.
HRDA urged the state government and its legal teams to mount a strong and uncompromising defence of the 85 per cent quota in court. Dr Rajkumar said the medical fraternity expects the government to protect a reform that is essential for Telangana’s future healthcare stability. He warned that public-health-driven policies must not be overshadowed by financial pressures or private lobbying interests.
The association also announced that it will intensify its fight against the commercialisation of medical education in Telangana. HRDA said it plans to pursue all legal avenues necessary to safeguard the rights of local PG aspirants and ensure that the 85 per cent reservation policy remains intact.
