District Court Gives Death Verdict for Murderer

The judge also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on Singh.

Hyderabad:Medchal-Malkajgiri III Additional District and Sessions Judge Manda Venkateshwara Rao on Monday imposed the death sentence on Karan Singh alias Kamma Singh for the murder of a woman at Bharatnagar in 2011. The judge also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on Singh.

Recalling the details, a Sanathnagar police official said they had received information from constable Kappari Ramu that a woman had been murdered near the ACC godown area beside the Bharatnagar flyover. A police team led by the then inspector G. Baswa Reddy rushed to the spot and found the woman’s naked body with severe knife injuries.

Police registered a case under Section 302 IPC and began the investigation.

During the investigation, Baswa Reddy, the then investigating officer, arrested Karan Singh on August 11, 2011. Singh was remanded to judicial custody. Police said the accused developed an illicit relationship with Maya Kaur, a close family member, which led to the murder. Later, inspector S. Srinivas Rao filed a comprehensive chargesheet before the court based on technical, circumstantial, and witness evidence.

During the trial, the Sanathnagar police, along with additional public prosecutor G.V. Ramakrishna Rao, produced witnesses and material evidence, which ensured a strong prosecution case. After examining the evidence and testimonies, the court convicted Karan Singh and awarded capital punishment.

Cyberabad police said the conviction reflected the determination of the investigation team and the prosecution in securing justice for the victim and her family after a prolonged legal battle. Cyberabad commissioner Avinash Mohanty congratulated the investigation and prosecution teams.
