Hyderabad: Bollywood icon Dharmendra, who passed away on Monday morning in Mumbai, always carried a special place for Hyderabad in his heart. The “He-Man” of Hindi cinema always spoke with warmth and affection about Hyderabad and his memories of the city.

During a movie’s promotional event in 2017, Dharmendra recalled how he used to go jogging in Jubilee Hills, and described it as a refreshing experience that filled him with calm and peace.

“I love to talk about Hyderabad with all the love in my heart. Hyderabad is a beautiful and heart warming place. The food is amazing, ranging from ‘Mirchi ka Salan’ to ‘Bagara Baingan’, everything served here is delicious,” he said.

He spoke about how the people of Hyderabad had love towards him and his films. “After the release of one of my films ‘Phool Aur Patthar’, even now my Muslim brothers and Hindu brothers in the city call me ‘Shaaka’ (Dharmendra’s character name) with love. That’s how much they love me. I love the city and the people here dearly too”, he said.

“The city has developed a lot lately. I hope the city can grow and develop as much as it can, and I will try to make it grow too”, he added. Dharmendra’s bond with Hyderabad remained enduring. The city that he once praised so fondly, is now mourning with countless others who loved him.
