Hyderabad: A large number of devotees turned up to take blessings of Goddess Sri Bhagya Lakshmi at the historic Charminar on Friday on account of Dhanteras. The decoration of the temple with colourful flowers and LED lights left the devotees spellbound.
To mark Diwali celebrations, the temple will be opened round-the-clock from November 8 to distribute coins to devotees till November 11 midnight. The crowd was normal on Friday morning after maharathi at 7 am but later swelled as the day progressed.
After 7 pm, more people thronged the temple and it continued till midnight. Temple Trustees Surya Prakash and Shashikala told Deccan Chronicle that the distribution of coins would commence after maharathi at 7 pm on Diwali on Sunday and the temple would be opened continuously for three days to enable devotees collect coins.
Explaining in detail about the arrangements, they said four entry and exit points were provided to ensure that devotees have a hassle-free darshan. The police department is also assisting the temple administration in making necessary arrangements.
Devotees from several parts of twin cities arrive at the temple on every Friday or during festivals. Several prominent persons including politicians and Union Ministers regularly visit the temple.
A few days ago, Union Home Minister Amit Shah visited the temple and offered special prayers before taking part in maha padayatra from Babu Jagjivan Ram statue in Basheerbagh to MJ Market to protest against the Congress's alleged misinformation campaign regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
Elsewhere in the city, devotees offered special prayers at Sri Ashtalakshmi Temple in Kothapet, Sri Bhulaxmi Temple at Muslim Jung Bridge in Begum Bazaar, and Sri Maha Laxmi temple in West Marredpally, among other areas.
