Adilabad: Telangana Director General of Police C.V. Anand on Wednesday said the police would recommend to the state government to stop extending Rythu Bharosa benefits to farmers found cultivating ganja.
He said 110 farmers were identified cultivating ganja over 257 acres in Adilabad district and ensured that they did not receive the scheme benefits. The measure would be implemented across districts as part of government policy, he added, while appealing to parents to prevent youth from drug use.
The DGP also stressed enforcement of road safety measures, including mandatory helmet use for two-wheeler riders and seat belts for both front and rear passengers in four-wheelers.
He said illegal parking on National Highways was a cause of accidents and urged residents of nearby villages to report such violations to the police.
Anand was addressing a gram sabha during the ‘Arrive Alive’ programme at Thosham village in Gudihathnoor mandal of Adilabad district. He distributed helmets, handed over driving licences to youth, and inaugurated a traffic signalling system at Komaram Bheem chowrasta and a Traffic Training Institute in Adilabad.
He called for formation of road safety committees at the village level to help reduce accidents.
Reviewing policing in the district, the DGP said police presence must be visible and offenders should be deterred through strict enforcement, including action under preventive detention laws.
He directed officials to form anti-narcotics and safety clubs among youth, conduct awareness programmes, use drones to detect ganja cultivation and deploy sniffer dogs trained in narcotics detection.
He also instructed officers to update records in the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems.
Senior officials, including Charu Sinha, Sandeep Sandilya and S. Chandrasekhar Reddy, were present.
