DGP Caution On Digital Arrest To Deadly Roads

“The council will function through eight major verticals. At a time when cybercrimes are increasing, people must remain alert. Earlier, stolen goods were sold in places like Jumma Raat Bazaar, but now the ‘Dark Web’ has become such a hub”: Director-General of Police B. Shivadhar Reddy

NIZAMABAD: Director-General of Police B. Shivadhar Reddy described the establishment of the Nizamabad Security Council, on the lines of Hyderabad and Cyberabad, as a commendable step to strengthen citizen safety.

“The council will function through eight major verticals. At a time when cybercrimes are increasing, people must remain alert. Earlier, stolen goods were sold in places like Jumma Raat Bazaar, but now the ‘Dark Web’ has become such a hub,” he said.

“Fraudsters are collecting Aadhaar and credit card details and cheating people. Incidents have come to light where people in police uniforms are cheating citizens in the name of ‘digital arrest’. People should be cautious about such phone calls,” he said.

The council, formed through coordination between government and private organisations, was formally launched on Friday at the Government Medical College, where the DGP unveiled its logo.

Shivadhar Reddy also stressed road safety under the ongoing ‘Arrive Alive’ campaign. He noted that while Telangana recorded about 800 murders annually, nearly 7,000 people die in road accidents. He urged strict adherence to safety rules, including compulsory helmets for riders and pillion riders, seat belts for car passengers, and safe overtaking practices. He directed police to take the campaign to the people as a mass movement.

New buildings of the Nizamabad Rural and Makloor police stations were inaugurated. The event was attended by government advisers P. Sudarshan Reddy and Mohammad Ali Shabbir, Nizamabad Rural MLA R. Bhupathi Reddy, Armoor MLA Paidi Rakesh Reddy, district collector Ila Tripathi, Multi Zone–I IGP S. Chandrashekhar Reddy and commissioner of police P. Sai Chaitanya.

Inspecting the new facilities, the DGP instructed staff to maintain a friendly atmosphere for victims and ensure prompt redressal of complaints. He said modernisation of police stations would accelerate crime control.

Later, at a programme on the city bypass road, the DGP and other guests distributed free helmets to motorists. He flagged off a massive bike rally to spread awareness on road safety, with senior officers, staff and voluntary organisations participating.
