DGP Asked To Report on Caste Slurs, Misconduct on Women Cops
The complaints relate to alleged abusive remarks against Dalits and an incident involving BRS MLAs removing their T-shirts in front of female police personnel.
Hyderabad: The Telangana Human Rights commission (TGHRC) directed the Director General of Police (DGP) to submit reports on complaints alleging caste-based abuse and misconduct towards women police personnel during two incidents on September 7.
The complaints relate to alleged abusive remarks against Dalits and an incident involving BRS MLAs removing their T-shirts in front of female police personnel.
In the complaint filed by Pilli Sudhakar, state president of National Mala Mahanadu and others, it was alleged that BRS MLC Tata Madhusudhan used abusive language against the Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar who belongs to the Dalit community.
Additionally, the complaint alleged that during a protest by Dalits outside the farmhouse of former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao in Erravalli, a woman identified as BRS leader Pavani Goud and others "purified" the area by sprinkling turmeric water and milk, while also hurling abusive and derogatory language at the protesters. The complainants requested that legal action be taken against those responsible.
In another complaint, Indira Shobhan alleged that during a protest held on the Assembly premises, a few BRS MLAs removed their black T-shirts and stood semi-naked in the presence of female police personnel who were on duty maintaining law and order. The complaint stated that this behaviour caused embarrassment, mental anguish and humiliation to the female police personnel, while also impacting their dignity and safety. The complainant requested an inquiry into the incident. Both the cases have been adjourned to October 9.
