Deworming Tablets Distributed to Children in Telangana

The deworming campaign is set help children get improved immunity, better nutrition absorption, and reduced risk of anaemia.

Hyderabad: Eighty-five lakh school students were given albendazole tablets on Monday as part of the National Deworming Day (NDD) programme. Another 11 lakh students will be covered in phases till August 18.

The deworming campaign is set help children get improved immunity, better nutrition absorption, and reduced risk of anaemia. Health minister Damodar Rajanarasimha flagged off the programe at the Social Welfare Residential School in Shaikpet, Hyderabad.

The programme is being rolled out across all 33 districts through 35,700 Anganwadi centres and 52,165 government and private schools and colleges. The minister urged educational institutions to ensure the drive’s success, stressing that eliminating intestinal worms is essential for children’s growth, concentration and overall well-being.

In Hyderabad, district collector Harichandana Dasari said the administration aimed to cover nearly 11 lakh children during the campaign, with tablets distributed under nurses’ supervision. She encouraged parents to ensure children take the medication every year and follow a nutritious diet to prevent worm-related health issues.

The Minister unveiled a wall poster on the deworming campaign and distributed tablets to students. State health commissioner Sangeeta Satyanarayana emphasised the need for personal hygiene and awareness to sustain the benefits of the programme.
