Nellore: Gaiety and devotional fervour filled the air as the auspicious Varalakshmi Vratam pujas were held with grandeur on Friday across Nellore district. Women, dressed in traditional attire, offered special prayers to Goddess Lakshmi, seeking health, wealth, and prosperity for their families. Temples witnessed an overwhelming turnout of devotees, transforming the occasion into a vibrant spiritual spectacle.

Sri Rajarajeswari Temple at Nellore and Sri Mallikarjuna Swamy Kamakshi Thayee Temple at Jonnavada, in Buchireddypalem mandal, emerged as prominent centres of the celebrations.
On this special Sravana Sukravaram (Friday of the holy Sravana month), Sri Kamakshi Tayee Amma was adorned as Sri Sravana Varalakshmi Devi in dazzling gold ornaments and elaborate floral decorations, offering a divine darshan to thousands of devotees.
A special Varalakshmi Vratam was performed at the temple’s Alankara Mandapam with grandeur by temple priests and Vedic scholars. Women devotees participated in large numbers in the rituals, which included sacred chants, offerings, and prayers.
In the morning, devotees took part in the Nitya Kalyana Mahotsavam of Sri Mallikarjuna Swamy along with Ganga Kamakshi Ammavaru, presenting numerous Kalyana Chadivimpulu (wedding offerings). The deity received a Panchamrita Abhishekam (ritual bath with five sacred substances), followed by mass Kumkuma Archana and Pallaki Seva in the evening.
Meanwhile, the high demand for puja materials such as flowers, coconuts, fruits, and decorative items led to a sharp rise in prices across local markets, as vendors capitalised on the festive rush.
