Station Ghanpur MLA says every acre will be supplied with irrigation water
Jangaon (Station Ghanpur): Former deputy chief minister and present Station Ghanpur MLA Kadiam Srihari has said Devadula waters are being used to fill reservoirs and provide irrigation to farmers, with the aim of protecting crops from drought.
On Friday, he released irrigation water into the crop canals through the right canal of the Mallanna Gandi reservoir. He said efforts were being made to supply water to every acre in the constituency.
Srihari performed special prayers to the Godavari waters stored in the reservoir before personally lifting the canal gates to release the water. He said the Devadula Lift Irrigation Scheme has become a boon for the erstwhile Warangal district.
The MLA attributed the filling of the reservoirs to continuous monitoring of Devaadula pumping operations over the past month and his close coordination with irrigation officials.
With the reservoirs currently holding around 50 per cent water, an ‘on-off’ system would be followed, under which irrigation water would be released for 15 days, followed by another 15 days of pumping to replenish the reservoirs, he said.
He advised farmers to use the available water only for the paddy already transplanted and dryland crops and not to take up fresh paddy cultivation. He also urged farmers, officials and public representatives to coordinate and monitor the canals to prevent wastage of water.
Market committee chairperson Lavanya Sirisha Reddy, irrigation officials, public representatives, local leaders and farmers were present.
