Desi Puppy Adoption Mela Conducted at Vengal Rao Park
The initiative not only aimed to promote the adoption of Indian dog breeds but also to encourage responsible pet ownership.

Hyderabad: The spirit of compassion came alive at the Indie Puppy Adoption Mela organised by GHMC on Sunday at Jalagam Vengalrao Park, where GHMC Commissioner R.V. Karnan urged citizens to treat adopted indie puppies as beloved members of their families.
The mela, held under the theme ‘Be a Hero. Adopt, Don’t Shop,’ featured 39 dewormed, vaccinated and healthy puppies. Of these, 24 were adopted by dog lovers eager to provide them safe and caring homes.
The commissioner, along with Khairatabad zonal commissioner Anurag Jayanthi, inaugurated the event. In a symbolic gesture, the commissioner personally handed over the first adopted puppy to Ch. Sai of Kukatpally.
Addressing the gathering, Karnan praised those who chose adoption, noting that families offering homes to these puppies were not only giving them shelter but also gaining lifelong loyalty and affection in return.
The event drew enthusiastic participation from GHMC chief veterinary officer Abdul Vakeel, DD veterinary officer Dr K. Chakrapani Reddy and scores of animal lovers who supported the adoption drive.
