Foggy conditions in Hyderabad to last for few days
Visibility Drops to 10 Meters

Hyderabad: The city woke up to dense fog on Thursday, causing a significant drop in visibility across several districts. Areas in Hyderabad, including Uppal, Himayatnagar, and Panjagutta, as well as outskirts such as Kompally, Shamshabad, and Balapur, reported heavy fog early in the morning.
Peerzadiguda resident Kartik Reddy described his experience, saying, “I couldn’t see beyond 10 metres while driving; it was extremely cold and foggy.”
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) attributed the phenomenon to temperature inversion effects, with misty and hazy conditions, which are expected to persist for the next three days.
Sangareddy district recorded the coldest temperature in the state on Wednesday at a chilling 9.3°C, well below the normal average of 15.3°C.
The IMD has issued a yellow alert for several districts, warning of a significant dip in temperatures over the coming days.
Northern and central Telangana are expected to bear the brunt of the cold wave, with temperatures in some areas predicted to fall as low as 11°C. Districts under alert include Adilabad, Kumaram Bheem, Nirmal, Karimnagar, and Hyderabad, among others.
Hyderabad’s daytime conditions are likely to remain cold, with temperatures averaging 17°C and misty mornings anticipated until Sunday.
Dense fog disrupted early visibility in key areas such as LB Nagar, Khairatabad, Secunderabad, and Serilingampally, leaving residents bundled up against the chill. Social media buzzed with images and videos of fog-covered streets and rooftops, with some likening the scenes to “Kodaikanal in Hyderabad.”
Weather enthusiast T. Balaji, popularly known as the ‘Telangana Weatherman’ on X, spoke about the severity of the cold, and urged residents to take precautions, particularly during the early morning hours. Vulnerable groups, including children and the elderly, have been advised to stay warm and avoid prolonged exposure to the cold.
The IMD’s latest temperature report reveals that several districts, including Kumaram Bheem (10°C), Vikarabad (10.8°C), and Rangareddy (10.8°C), are experiencing significantly lower temperatures than usual. In Hyderabad, the minimum temperature hovered around 17°C. Foggy conditions were also reported in districts like Kamareddy, Karimnagar, and Nizamabad, further complicating visibility and road safety.
