Demanding Gyanesh Kumar’s Resignation Youth Cong Leaders Stage Protest

HYDERABAD: The Youth Congress leaders staged a protest outside the Chief Electoral Officer’s office here on Tuesday, demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The protesters shouted slogans and burnt an effigy of Gyanesh Kumar as part of the Congress’ nationwide protest.
Led by state Youth Congress president Jakkidi Shivacharan Reddy, the protesters alleged that the Election Commission was partial to some sections and had failed to maintain transparency during the voter-list revisions. Shivacharan Reddy alleged that Gyanesh Kumar, acting at the behest of the BJP and RSS, had removed approximately 14 crore votes across the country without addressing their objections. He warned that if the Gyanesh Kumar was not arrested, the Youth Congress would intensify its agitation.
Meanwhile, Congress leaders also held flash protests at the Hyderabad and Rangareddy collectorates. “We submitted a representation to the joint collector. Our struggle will not cease until Gyanesh Kumar is arrested and a comprehensive inquiry is conducted,” said Khairatabad DCC president Motha Rohit.
While taking part in the protest at the Rangareddy collectorate, Rachamalla Siddheshwar, former chairman, Rajiv Gandhi Panchayati Raj Sangathan (RGPRS), said while the SIR process was previously limited to removing names of deceased individuals and duplicate votes, but now the rights of eligible voters were being trampled upon. “The SIR process conducted so far must be comprehensively reviewed, and if the rights of eligible voters have been removed anywhere, they must be immediately restored,” he demanded.
