The accused was involved in two cases reported in Telangana and Karnataka

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad cybercrime police nabbed a 30-year-old Manish, an unemployed and native of Delhi, for his alleged involvement in a job fraud. He was involved in two cases - one in Telangana and another in Karnataka.
A 27-year-old woman from Hyderabad approached cyber crimes sleuths with a complaint stating that she had applied for a job through a job portal. She said fraudsters contacted her informing they were hiring the staff.
They asked her to select one company and pay a registration fee of Rs.3,000. For background verification, they demanded an additional amount of Rs.10,999, which she did not pay. However, the fraudsters assured her that she would definitely get the job and that the money would be refunded within 24 hours after employment.
On December 26, 2024, they informed her that she had been selected for the job. They then asked her to pay Rs.42,670 for medical insurance and Rs.35,000 for security procedures. After making payments, they claimed that the payment gateway was stuck and kept postponing the job process repeatedly.
She later realized that this was a cyber fraud, through which she had lost a total amount of Rs.1.49 lakh. Based on her complaint, a case was registered under Sections 66C, 66D of the IT Act, and Sections 111(2)(b), 318(4), and 319(2) of the BNS, and took up investigation.
The police said the fraudsters were contacting victims through job portals, social media platforms - Telegram app, WhatsApp calls and messages and through advertisements in social media apps.
They falsely claim to represent multiple reputed companies and offer job opportunities apart from assuring the guaranteed job and promising that the money would be refunded after placement. After receiving the payment, they eventually stop responding to the victim.
