Intermediate Students Await Textbooks

Non‑availability of Urdu medium books is attributed to a shortage of writers

HYDERABAD: Even after a month since intermediate classes began, Telugu and Urdu medium first‑year students in government junior colleges are yet to receive their textbooks.

Students said the delay is making it difficult to follow lessons and revise later. This year’s first‑year syllabus has been revised, with printing taken up by the Telugu Akademi.

Non‑availability of Urdu medium books is attributed to a shortage of writers. The issue extends to vocational stream textbooks as well.

Lecturers said the problem is affecting students mostly from rural areas. As English medium books have been supplied, lecturers are teaching through them and translating into Telugu during classes.

M. Bharath Kumar, a first‑year student, said: “It is difficult to just listen to the class without a textbook. Topics like the Constitution need immediate study after lectures, but we don’t have the books.” Another student, Sagar, said textbooks are not available even in the open market.

Telugu Akademi chairman Prof. Venkata Narayana maintained that all first‑year books were released in early June. Meanwhile, TGJLA president Dr Vaskula Srinivas and secretary Dr. Koppisetti Suresh said they had submitted an online representation to the director of Intermediate Education, urging immediate distribution of textbooks.
