Delay in Lecturers’ Reappointment Affects Govt Degree College Students in Telangana

Delay in renewing 1,654 guest lecturers disrupts classes, leaves students without core subject teaching

Hyderabad: Even three months after the academic year began, many government degree colleges in the state do not have lecturers to teach several subjects, affecting the precious time of hundreds of people.

The situation became dire for government degree colleges following the state government’s inaction to renew the services of 1,654 guest lecturers, many of whom have been teaching on temporary appointments for years. This led to several government colleges functioning without having lecturers for core subjects like mathematics, commerce, and political science.

While corporate colleges are nearing syllabus completion, students in government colleges are left waiting. Several college principals have already written to the state government, seeking immediate deployment of teaching staff.

“It’s affecting our preparations for competitive exams. We don’t even know when or if lecturers will join,” said Asma Fathima, a final-year student at a government college in Nampally.

Members of student organisations argue that this delay not only disrupts academic continuity but also reflects a larger apathy towards government education. They are demanding that renewal orders be issued immediately so that students don’t lose more classroom time.

“The academic calendar is already compromised. The government must act without delay. Most of these guest lecturers have served for years with minimal pay, and yet every year we go through the same uncertainty,” said Rajinikanth S., a representative of a state student committee.

While guest lecturers have continued raising their concerns year after year, officials earlier told Deccan Chronicle that budgetary processes and faculty rationalisation are still underway.
