Delay In BIE Affiliation To Colleges Worries Students

A total of 3,354 applications, including those from government, government sector, and private junior colleges, were received, and 1,193 were granted affiliation as of Tuesday.

Hyderabad: Students and parents raised serious concerns over the delay in the grant of the Board of Intermediate Education’s (BIE) affiliation to private unaided junior colleges, which commence the academic year 2026-27 on June 1. While the Board insists that parents join their children in the affiliated junior colleges, it has not granted affiliation to hundreds of colleges.

However, BIE secretary Abhilasha Abhinav told Deccan Chronicle that affiliation notification had been issued well in advance on February 5 to process at the earliest possible, providing adequate time to all managements to comply with prescribed norms.

A total of 3,354 applications, including those from government, government sector, and private junior colleges, were received, and 1,193 were granted affiliation as of Tuesday.

The affiliation process, according to officials, is underway, and pending applications will be completed shortly. They said the affiliation process cannot be bypassed in the interest of speed alone.

"Every institution must satisfy the prescribed academic, infrastructural, and administrative standards before affiliation is granted. The board's inspection teams are actively conducting field visits and examining applications on a priority basis to ensure timely completion of the process before the academic year commences," the officials said.

The board urged all college managements that have pending compliance to expedite their submissions so that the process could be completed at the earliest.

In a statement, the All India Muslim Education Society, Telangana, said, “Parents generally verify the affiliation status of colleges before admitting their children, and the abnormal delay in issuance of affiliation orders is creating uncertainty and adversely affecting admissions in private junior colleges across Telangana.”
